Our Mission Statement
At Maple Ridge Secondary we create a caring and safe environment where all students have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes to contribute to society.
"Creating Community, Providing Opportunity"
Maple Ridge Secondary School
Ecole Secondaire de Maple Ridge
For over 50 years Maple Ridge Secondary School has played a key part in forming the bedrock upon which the growing community of Maple Ridge was built. Throughout its history MRSS has functioned as a facility inclusive of students, parents, educators and the greater community. We take pride in assuring all of our students that there is an important place for them in our community now and in the future; we encourage them to celebrate our history and to be confident that they, too, will leave a legacy.
MRSS is a dual track English & French Immersion school, offering a variety of education programs and courses from grades 8 to 12. Programs include Advanced Placement, honour courses, gifted, digital arts academy, learning assistance, cafeteria training and so much more. Due to the large array of programs there are many course options including chamber choir, jazz band, ceramics and sculpture, cabinet construction, automotive technology, Spanish, Japanese, German, digital video and animation and cook training, to name but a few. Additionally, students with special needs, whether emotional, physical or cognitive, are provided with flexible, caring environments that best meet a wide range of learning abilities.
Extensive involvement and commitment by staff beyond the classroom creates an array of rich experiences where students continue their pursuit of excellence. MRSS has gained many team and individual provincial championships. At MRSS we have variety of team sports including badminton, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, curling, field hockey, golf, power lifting, rugby, soccer, swimming and water polo, tennis, track & field, volleyball and wrestling. Our music program is second to none. During the year the music program invites the community to concerts showcasing the jazz band, concert band, concert choir, chamber choir and vocal jazz. MRSS participates in exchange programs to Germany, Japan and Mexico, providing meaningful cultural experiences. We encourage students to participate in these activities to enrich their learning experience and to gain understanding of their role in their larger community.
School Improvement Goals
To foster respect for learning within the school community.
To improve student's ability to comprehend course content.
